McCain spoke for exactly 10 minutes before turning over the (Senate) floor (supposedly for a colloquy) to his amigo Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC). He spent most of his time complaining about President Obama's statement this afternoon at the White House, saying that it was "cheerleading" and "denigrating Republicans." McCain said he wanted to see the President lead, and meet with Republicans seriously. He also believes that the President does not seem to understand that many House Republicans took a pledge to not raise taxes and could not vote against it.
McCain also compared this crisis to the last time the government shut down: Last time, "we pulled back from the brink... after we went over it."
Here is the Obama statement.
