With 9 weeks of non-stop advertising still to go, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ("DCCC") today reported approximately $608,000 in TV ad buys attacking the GOP challengers to Reps. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-CD1) and Ron Barber (D-CD2).
The big news was the new ad that dropped on the Phoenix market the day after Gary Kiehne conceded the GOP nomination to Andy Tobin in CD1, the hotly-contested congressional district that covers much of eastern Arizona. The ad goes after Tobin for cuts to educational spending during his tenure as Arizona House Speaker.
The DCCC announced earlier this summer that it had planned to spend approximately $2.2 million to defend Kirkpatrick. The district is rated as one of 15 toss-up House elections in the nation.
The report filed with the Federal Election Commission also reported an additional $163,260.97 in ad buys defending incumbent Rep. Ron Barber (D-CD2). That brings DCCC's total negative ad expenditure (where Martha McSally was the presumptive GOP nominee early on) in that southern Arizona race to $292,000. CD2 is rated as one of the five PURE toss-ups in the nation (by Rothenberg).
The DCCC announced a budget of $700,000 for the CD2 race.
