WATCH/READ: "Phony": Club For Growth Launches $250k Ad Campaign Against Christine Jones (FOLLOWING MONEY IN ARIZONA'S POLITICS)

(11:45am: added information regarding funding for Club For Growth Action)

The conservative Club For Growth is diving into Arizona's CD5 Republican primary, today launching a $250k+ ad campaign against Christine Jones. CFG is endorsing Andy Biggs to replace the re-retiring Rep. Matt Salmon (R-CD5).

The ad hammers the former Go Daddy general counsel for her Facebook and blog posts expressing support for both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and calls her "phony". The comments were also used against her in the primary battle for Governor in 2014; the group attacking her then was part of the Doug Ducey/Sean Noble dark money campaign against multiple GOP rivals. Arizona's Politics' Fact Check of that ad gave it a "C+" as misleading, and many of the same logic applies to the new ad.

While the CFG total ad outlay is not yet known - CFG has until tomorrow to file with the FEC - KPHO indicates that the broadcast budget for the spot is $243k between today and next week. CFG states that it will also be airing the ad on cable and online.

Club For Growth's Super PAC is chiefly funded by three billionaires: Warren and Jackson (Jr.) Stephens and Richard Uihlein. (see below FEC graphic) There are no Arizona contributions of significant size.
