(Updated 1:35pm: Updated to add the NRCC's earlier-announced budgets for CD1 and CD2.)
With 9 weeks of non-stop advertising still to go, the National Republican Congressional Committee ("NRCC") today reported that it has already spent more than $500,000 in opposing incumbent Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-CD1).
That (baggage claim) check reached $544,000 with today's report of a $376,244.36 media buy for the hotly-contested congressional district that covers much of eastern Arizona. Most of the advertising has been purchased in the Phoenix market.
The NRCC announced earlier this summer that it had planned to spend nearly $2 million to unseat Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick is facing state House Speaker Andy Tobin in the district - which is rated as one of 15 toss-up House elections in the nation.
The report filed with the Federal Election Commission also reported an additional $176,882.55 in ad buys against incumbent Rep. Ron Barber (D-CD2). That brings NRCC's total negative ad expenditure in that southern Arizona race to $379,000. CD2 is rated as one of the five PURE toss-ups in the nation (by Rothenberg), and Barber is facing a rematch against GOP nominee Martha McSally.
The NRCC announced a budget of $1 million for the CD2 race.
