Two weeks ago, Arizona's Politics reported on Plaintiffs' $6 Million attorneys' fees request in the long-running Melendres v. Arpaio racial-profiling lawsuit. You can read that article and the fees request here.
Today, U.S. District Court Judge G. Murray Snow gave Maricopa County an extension to respond to the request, requiring an answer by September 1.
The Plaintiffs were awarded $4.4M in 2014. The suit began in 2007, and will not be ending any time soon. Not only is a Court Monitor in place to ensure the MCSO complies with the Court's orders, but the Judge is set to rule shortly on whether or not to refer Sheriff Joe Arpaio (and three others) for a criminal contempt investigation.
