With as competitive a political news environment as we currently have in Arizona, it is difficult for a part-time, small-time reporter to find a niche - let alone break - decent-sized stories.
However, it appears that that is what we have done twice in the past two days. And, I would like to thank and/or tip the hat to a few individuals. Arizona's Politics was not the first on the scene when the DCCC filed its complaint with the FEC on Wednesday. But, we were the first to report on the McCain campaign's late-filed notice of its advertising on behalf of congressional challengers Ruth McClung and Jesse Kelly; and, we were the first to point out the acknowledgment that a 24-hour notice was required and that it was past that 24-hour period.
Yesterday, we were the first to point out that there was something fishy about the television ad attacking Tom Horne. Although I did not see it until after posting my report, Dennis Welch at the Arizona Guardian put out a story early this afternoon on it. Also, a commenter at this site ("standright") provided a bit more information, and Arizona's Politics was able to push the story forward. The good folks at the non-profit Center for Responsive Politics (aka OpenSecrets.org) helped locate the group's EIN. Thanks to all.
We look forward to continuing to push these stories forward, to the extent we are able. Any information that you think might be helpful - in these or other stories - would be appreciated. You can e-mail or call, as posted at the top of this blog.
And, if you appreciate the volunteer effort that has been put into this blog, please spread the word. Comments, tweets, e-mails, etc. can all help. Thanks.
