As we get closer to November, the independent expenditures on behalf of or against Congressional candidates will continue to increase. Arizona's Politics will check in regularly on the reports that these groups must submit to the Federal Election Commission. Here are the details for this week's filings.
Our previous reports on Independent Expenditures in Arizona's Congressional campaigns were posted on October 13, October 12, October 7, October 4, September 30, and September 28.
The conservative group "Americans For Tax Reform" yesterday filed that it has spent more than $40,000 on a mailer opposing Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (Dem., CD1). The title of the mailer gives a clue as to the subject: "Kirkpatrick the Spendificent". (Not much comes up in Google under "spendificent", so maybe Sarah Palin came up with the idea.)
For the numbers junkies following our regular updates, the $40,709.00 breaks down like this: $250.00 for design, $12,772.14 for "print and production", $15,099.49 for postage, and $12,587.37 for "additional postage".
As always, Arizona's Politics requests that if you see a copy of this mailer, please forward a copy to us. We would love to Fact Check this - and any ads or mailers. (Plus, based on the title, I am expecting some cool graphics.)
