Arizona Senator John McCain is ready to issue an official dissent tomorrow, constituting his strongest statement on the long-simmering controversy regarding whether the Internal Revenue Service unfairly targeted conservative organizations when reviewing applications for social welfare 501(c )(4)'s.
Politico reports that the Senate's Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations is going to issue a report tomorrow criticizing the IRS' Inspector General's findings. As the ranking minority member, Sen. McCain (R-AZ) is issuing a dissent.
Politico published the following statement from a McCain staffer: "Sen. McCain believes the Democrats’ interpretation of the evidence fails to capture the extent of the IRS’s bias against conservative groups and flagrant abuse of power,” the statement says. “In his rebuttal, Sen. McCain notes that the information gathered to date shows that the IRS frequently and pervasively targeted conservative organizations, especially tea party groups.”
