(UPDATE, 9/5/14, 6pm: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce filed their spending report with the Federal Election Commission after closing time this evening. It indicates that the Chamber is actually spending $350,000 on running the "Good Dog, Ron!" ad on both television and digital media. We have updated the headline and the lede and added the FEC report at the bottom of the article, but not made other changes to the original article.)
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is unveiling a $350,000 ad campaign today calling incumbent Rep. Ron Barber (D-CD2) a "liberal lap dog" and labeling GOP nominee "an independent leader".
The original dark money king has not yet reported the buy to the Federal Election Commission, but Tucson's Channel 58 (KWBA) filed its report with the Federal Communications Commission this afternoon (see below).
It indicates that the ad is to run from today through September 14 on Tucson TV and cable stations, and that the ad is NOT to run on September 11th.
CD2 is listed as one of the five "pure toss-up" Congressional races in the nation. At the present rate, it will not be surprising if some Tucson TV stations preempt programming to run blocks of political commercials with breaks for 30 second sound bites from the regular programs.
TRANSCRIPT:
With Ron Barber, Nancy Pelosi and the White House found the perfect lap dog who follows commands. Like 'protect Obamacare', 'defend junk lawsuits'. Good boy, Ron. Sit. Stay. Barber is the lap dog liberals love. He voted with his party more than 75% of the time. If you want an independent leader with the guts to tackle big problems, support Martha McSally. She'll say no to her own party when it matters for Arizona. The U.S. Chamber is responsible for the content of this advertising.

This ad is kind of degrading. Might backfire
Thanks for commenting, Steve.
Yeah, maybe. But, it certainly caught OUR eyes! And, it finishes with a strong pro-McSally message. (I like how they use a jet to pull the screen from anti-Barber to pro-McSally - clever touch.)
Are we sure that it is actually the US Chamber of Commerce?? The ad ends saying US Chamber not Chamber of Commerce. Not sure why they left out Commerce??? Why do I think that it is really backed by the Koch Brothers. They have put a lot of money into her campaign. I am waiting for her to make a statement on women's issues, equal pay, job security, paid maternity leave, contraception, abortion, gay/lesbian issues. She has been very careful to obey the far-right line...does not sound like the military officer who refused to "cover up" in the Middle East!!!
Thanks for commenting, Darsha. Yes, we are sure it is the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The end of the ad does specify that, although it does say that their website is uschamber.com. ('Course, the Koch brothers may have given a couple of bucks to the U.S. Chamber, too. ;-))
I couldn't really care less about either of the candidates in CD2, but this ad is a pretty weak claim. Check out the voting records for all house members here:
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/113/house/members/
Note that Ron Barber has the 8th most independent voting record (75% party line) out of 439 members. News flash: Congress votes party line.
Martha McSally is a hypocrite, closeted lesbian. Who can trust her?
